Hunter S Thompson (HQ)

Maybe there is no Heaven. Or maybe this is all pure gibberish — a product of the demented imagination of a lazy drunken hillbilly with a heart full of hate who has found a way to live out where the real winds blow — to sleep late, have fun, get wild, drink whisky, and drive fast on empty streets with nothing in mind except falling in love and not getting arrested...
Res ipsa loquitur. Let the good times roll.

UTorrent

Utorrent has been my favorite bittorrent client in windows not so much for the mac. Mac users have long been waiting for utorrent to come out on the mac. Well, its here and I must say didn't meet up to my expectation.

The reason utorrent has been my favorite torrent downloader in windows was cause its lightweight, stable, easy to use, very fast and makes downloading torrents a lot more simpler than it has ever been. Well, its not totally a bad software. All these features still apply. To make it better, the new interface is very stylish. On the whole utorrent for mac is basically a stripped down version when compared to its predecessor in windows.

You can see what I was talking about when I said stylish interface. The left hand side is still pretty much the same as in windows. You can opt to see all downloads, all completed torrents, currently active ones and finally the inactive ones.

utorrent-transfer-menu.png You can also decide to view all your torrents at one go. Users familiar with the windows interface will see that the RSS button and the create your own torrent option is gone. Not to worry because the software is still in the beta testing stage and all these features would definitely arrive with the real deal.

The other features are generally the same as in Windows. The same stats menu is also there in the bottom of the interface. You can toggle it on and off with the info button on the top right. The stats menu includes General , Files and Peers.

The General menu shows you how much of the torrent has finished downloading and the tracker.

utorrent-file-menu.png

The Files tab shows you what files you're downloading with the torrent.

utorrent-peers-menu.png

The Peers tab shows you the peers or users your connected to while downloading or uploading a torrent.

The top of the interface has a search bar which is a rather disappointing feature in this version of utorrent. Rather than giving you the list of torrents you can download it takes you straight to google search results. If the search resulted in displaying the torrent files you can download or took you straight to a link it would have been very useful like in the windows version.

uTorrent Upload and Download Speeds

The preferences option in the menu bar has sort of the same funcions as that of Windows which lets you limit the bandwidth, network and BitTorrent settings.

uTorrent Preferences

To Sum up, the downloads are really fast. This will obviously depend on your internet connection. It takes a little time for utorrent to start finding seeds and downloading your files. It does not allow you to add custom trackers to the downloading file. It goes with the default trackers which comes with the torrent.

If you are a uTorrent user in Windows, you can surely give it a go on the Mac. If you're new to the utorrent scene then try it out maybe you've been missing out on one of the best torrent applications out there.
